One of these companies is VSTEP Simulation, developer of maritime simulators and software for training purposes. Throughout the world, mariners rely upon nautical charts to guide their voyages, to assist them in avoiding obstructions, and to note any special ocean conditions when sailing.

When a vessel navigates in confined waters, such as in a harbour or narrow channel, it is well known among experienced pilots that the ship handling is greatly affected by the hydrodynamic forces and moments acting between ship and bank or sidewall of the channel.

As the container shipping industry continues to boom, companies are adopting new technologies to move cargo faster and shifting to crewless ships.
