Safehaven: New Pilot Boat to Williams Shipping (UK)

Safehaven Marine of Ireland will soon deliver a new pilot boat to Williams Shipping based in Southampton, UK.

"Willfreedom" is powered by two Scania DI13 engines that deliver an operational speed of 25 knots. A maximum of 12 passengers can be accommodated in addition to the crew of two.

The boat also has a 27,000btu AC unit, Raymarine navigation equipment, a PU bonded fendering system, Grammer shock-mitigating seats, and an MOB recovery platform.

The massive container ship that ran aground in the Suez Canal, halting traffic in one of the world's busiest waterways, is still stuck. The ship, called the Ever Given, became horizontally wedged in the waterway following heavy winds. Nearly 19,000 ships passed through the canal during 2020, for an average of 51.5 per day, according to the Suez Canal Authority.

However, assessments will raise questions by lawyers if something goes wrong. They will use tools to calculate what really is needed with respect to tug power and number of tugs. They have furthermore the advantage of time.
