La Nouvelle-Calédonie, notamment la Grande Terre, a la particularité d'être complètement entourée par un lagon, seules quelques passes rendent son accès possible aux navires venant de l'étranger. La navigation maritime y est délicate car une bonne connaissance de la topologie des fonds sous-marins est indispensable. Tous les bateaux de commerces de plus de 60 m voulant accoster en Nouvelle-Calédonie doivent impérativement faire appel aux services des pilotes maritimes de Nouvelle-Calédonie, qui pilotent eux-mêmes les portes-containers, les minéraliers et les bateaux de croisières, depuis les passes autorisées jusqu'à leur port d'accostage à leur arrivée, et dans le sens contraire à leur départ. Ainsi la sécurité et la protection de notre lagon contre les accidents maritimes est garantie. Entre Terre et Mer les suit dans leurs missions essentielles à la vie économique du pays.

Born and bred in the coastal city Mombasa, Marami initially studied law at the University of Nairobi, but later changed course and went on to pursue navigation in Alexandria, Egypt for 5 years. “I always grew up knowing that I wanted to do something different, Something out of the ordinary.
