SafePilot CAT MAX

by Trelleborg Marine Systems Denmark A/S 205 -

Trelleborg's SafePilot CAT MAX solution is developed for applications requiring the highest positioning accuracy, for instance, piloting in confined waters, offshore operations, and so on.

It is a dual antenna solution consisting of heading and positioning units. The system is completely independent and does not rely on the ship's instrumentation.

The CAT MAX units communicate with each other and the pilot's display via Wi-FI, ensuring a stable and long range connection.

The built-in three-axis motion sensor offers precise and independent rate of turn, roll, and pitch, allowing for very accurate predictions when doing turns and navigating in confined waters.

published on 29 December 2022

Ahmed is an ideas man. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he came up with a way to protect pilots from infection by driving incoming ships remotely, allowing his team to virtually board foreign ships rather than encounter new people in person, which would have put his colleagues at risk.

Jacobsen Pilot Service and Los Angeles Pilot Station published a notice to all ships to inspect pilot ladders before the pilot boards.

Reason is an incident happened at the port of long beach in July 2020. Pilot ladder rope broke while the pilot was on the ladder - luckily the pilot was able to hold on.

Video Safe at sea with satellites (AIS)

published on 5 June 2020

At sea, space technology is used to help save lives every day: managing traffic between ships, picking up migrants and refugees in distress or spotting oil spills. The European Space Agency is once again at the forefront developing new technologies and satellites: to keep us safe at sea and to monitor the environment. Space makes a difference here on Earth and certainly at sea where there is no infrastructure.

Opinion Positioning of vessel at berth by using bridge wing gyro repeater

by Capt. Girish Chandra - published on 14 April 2020

Today I will discuss a very simple and useful practical trick often used by pilots.

When we have to berth a vessel with small clearances forward and aft (say 20 to 25 mtr fwd and aft) it is very essential that you are able to estimate your position. Now most of the time you have a berthing supervisor on jetty who will help you with position.
