VR Maritime Training Webinar: Case study into a Virtual Reality (VR) Shiphandling project

published on 28 March 2022 519 -

Nautical Institute webinar, 13:00 – 14:30 UTC on Thursday 31st March, 2022.

For many years Nautical Institute members have been challenging the organisation to find ways of improving accessibility to shiphandling training. Access to ships and simulators can be difficult and expensive, but good shiphandling skills are so essential and critical to improving safety and reducing risk.

Safetytech Accelerator, establish by Lloyd’s Register, is focused on solving industrial safety and risk challenges with technology. NI approached Safetytech Accelerator with the challenge of improving accessibility to shiphandling training, which they gladly accepted.

Immersive technologies, such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) create new and exciting possibilities for maritime training, while providing a more cost-efficient, flexible solution to fixed simulators.

Join this webinar to find out about an exciting proof of concept project in which Safetytech Accelerator worked with Kilo, an experienced developer of Maritime Virtual Environments and training solutions, and The Nautical Institute to find out whether they could positively contribute to the development of ship handling skills, and therefore support operational risk reduction and improve Professional Development.

This webinar will be interactive, inviting feedback and questions from attendees and will provide a certificate of participation to all those who attend.
