Med Marine and Misurata Free Zone signed a two-vessel contract for MED-P16 series in March 2022 for Misurata Free Zone’s operations in Misurata, Libya. After 8 months of construction period of the vessels, Misurata Free Zone takes the delivery of the two high- quality pilot boats. I have had the privilege of being at quite a number of meetings, conferences and seminars, sometimes representing The Netherlands, but mostly representing the Netherlands pilots. I have had many discussions about the role of pilots and pilot organisations, which lead me to write an article “What is the added value of pilotage?”, published in the February 2020 issue of Seaways.

The scope of this report covers a twenty-year period between 1999 and 2019 in which there were 1,046 such recorded incidents and where each incident gave rise to P&I liabilities in excess of US$100,000.
